Sprint Coach Randy Huntington recommends using a Sam bag to help with squatting and deadlifting. The movement is very externally rotated, which can cause problems for some people. A bowbell has its own position in the body that you can't get from just holding it or throwing it over your shoulder. You have to squeeze -- by squeezing, you involve the pet. It's a natural movement where you can't really, you would have to work very hard.
