The Importance of Harmony
Harmony can sometimes be preferable to maximising its freedom, says the author. A referendum which gives people a simple binary choice might seem like a good way of empowering people's democratic choice and so forth. But actually what it really does is that it empowers a smallt small majority that wins over the minority,. potentially creating much greater disharmony. And one of the most interesting i found is around ideas of selfhood and identity across pretty much all of east asia.
