Von Braun was a Nazi rocket engineer who basically pioneered the German rocket technologies prior to World War II. He wrote a novel, a fictional novel about his life and his German rocket scientist companions that extrapolates to the future when with the ages of the US government, they get funding to actually take a fleet of rocket ships to Mars or set up a colony.
