The Fall of the Ottoman Empire

The end of the ottoman empire was like a slow motion collapse. The only territories that the turks were able to retain were those that they conquered back through the capitalist war of independence. I really was struck, in doing my research on the book, by how determined wer. outoman's thought they'd been written off from the very beginning as the weakest link in the central power chain. They wound up driving the british and french out of gallipoli. And i think the tenacity of the Ottomans was a more interesting part of the story than an inevitable fall would have been.
