The Bomb Is What Dooms Us
After the Second World War it looked like Khrushchev was going to do it. People hate him now because look what happened but that switched from production to consumption and the economy. Now if you allow more workers in the Soviet Union to have workplace power they're going to want to work less. That is how they will factor their self-interest in running their economic activity. But the state can't afford that because that could reduce profits just as it would under capitalism. The bomb is what dooms us. As soon as the bomb is built in a capitalist state it ensures that capitalism will never be defeated from within. I think David Lynch has got that one nailed.
