The Role of Reconciliation in Her Life
In her work, aren't offers a concept of reconciliation as a kind of formal philosophical concept that's different from forgiveness. Forgiveness, she says, is something that you give to another person, not for yourself, but for them so that they can go on living in their life. But reconciliation is a bit different and reconciling oneself to the actions of another person means not conflating the core of who they are with an act or series of acts that that person engages in. And it doesn't mean granting permission or being okay with. It just means that one can in a way I think we might say look past.
