If you only have 35 hits in a year, you're not going to be very good, even if they're home run. There are certain situations where sometimes all you need to do is put the ball in play and in other situations you need a big fly. In some limited cases, i think there might be some value ifou if you had the spare rester spot. If we have like restrict s on active pitchers, and you have room for actual bench players and dedicated pinch hitters, i can see some situation where maybe you just like you need the guy who can give you dingers and nothing else.
