Levodopa and Parkinson's Disease

The half-life of levodopa is very short. An interruption of the therapy for more than six to 12 hours can result in severe skeletal muscle rigidity that that interferes with ventilation. Patients being treated with dopamine agonists may be at increased risk for neurologic malignant syndrome. Response to neuromuscular blockers is generally normal.
