I think Poles feel that I'm treating their subject fairly, which I like to hope everyone is going to feel. If you're thinking about becoming a historian of these issues, the first thing I would recommend is learning the languages of the powers and then learn at least one language of the people in between. It seems a simple point, but I'm really worried about it because we're not doing so much better with multilingual or regional history now than we were 20 years ago.
