CHAPTER

The Hittites in Western Anatolia

Hittite texts tell us that the whole region, which they called the Atazawa lands, were a patchwork of smaller probably Louis and speaking kingdoms. It's also hard to say what Troy's economy was like but numerous spindle worlds have been found in the ruins of the city so it's likely that textiles were a key commodity. The Hittites clearly believed that western Anatolia was theirs to control but nothing we know about the Mycenaeans suggests that they wouldn't have been keen on a spot of raiding or conquest if the opportunity presented itself.
