The reason we have such incredibly cheap meat is because of the extraordinary lengths to which we've gone to subsidize the industrial agricultural complex. Americans don't want to pay what it actually costs to raise livestock, for example, on pasture. There are legislation out there being proposed like Cory Booker's farm system reform act that would help build a new food and agriculture system. But I think you know whether we're moving the needle or blowing up the whole system remains to be seen.
