Chopin Balad by Teresa Carreo
Teresa Carreño was a Venezuelan pianist and composer who had one of the more successful concertizing careers of any 19th century pianist. She performed quite literally all over the world, and not only as a pianist but as an opera singer as well. The performance was recorded on a piano roll, which was a machine that reproduced on paper, the tempo and sound made on a specially designed piano. It's a moment of incredible coloristic ingenuity.
