The Importance of Improvisation in Music

Branford: I think that the part that's about the style of the sound, he starts out saying somebody who knows has a big vocabulary in the English language that can get up and do Shakespeare. They're not going to be necessarily successful at getting up to the pulpit where he doesn't say the word improvise but I think that's what he's implying. So you have to have some improvisational flair, not just the data as he says. To me it's more the difference of if you talk about a joke writer versus a stand up comedian. It's not even improvisation but more performing.
