The ancestral athlete approach is the idea of moving with light levels of physical activity throughout the day. A few things that i've really found to be helpful in terms of standing for long periods of time are an inversion table, compression socks and a mogo seat. I don't know if your boss will be that happy about you dragging a big old inversion table and tossi it next to your desk o yor cubicle but at home it works well.
