Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases TIME OUT and DOWN TIME
In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase time out. Now you may have heard this phrase before if you watch sports. Sometimes the coach will say, "Time out," and then the ref will blow the whistle. And then they will all stop playing for a little bit while the coach talks to the player. But did you know that teachers and parents and other people sometimes use this phrase as well? When I see two students arguing, sometimes I just say, "Hey, time out. Just stop arguing for a little bit. Let's try to resolve this situation in a different way." When my own children would be fighting or arguing, sometimes I would say, "Hey, time out. Let's just stop for a minute." Stop arguing, stop wrestling, whatever they were doing. Just, "Time out. Let's just stop and try to resolve this situation in a different way." So it's not just a phrase for coaches on sports teams.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is actually just a term, and it's the term down time. Down time refers to any time when you just relax and don't work. Jen is busy flower farming right now, but in November, she's looking forward to some down time. She will have some time in November where she doesn't have to work. Right now, Jen is putting in 12, 14, sometimes 16 hour days. She's very, very busy. So she's definitely looking forward to some down time. So hopefully that comes soon.
So to review, when you say time out, it means just stop what you're doing. Usually there's a conflict, and you want people to just take a break from it. And when you refer to something as down time, it's just a time where you relax and don't work for a little bit. I could use some down time as well in the future.

But hey, let's look at a comment from another video. This comment is from Eduardo. "Hi, Bob. Good morning. Hope everything's going well over there." And then my response, "It's a good day so far. I just went for a good walk. Now I'm taking the time to respond to comments. I hope you're having a good day."
And then when I was done replying to comments, I came out here. So yes, there were just a few people walking by there. Anyways, what was I gonna say? Oh yeah, I've had a good morning. I went for an hour and a half walk. That was awesome. I just loved it. And thanks, Eduardo, for that comment. I hope you're having a good day as well.
Hey, you might think I'm out here in the wilderness in Canada, but surprisingly, if I turn, you'll see there is a walking path. You just heard some people go by on the walking path. And then if I turn again, you'll see that I'm actually on the edge of town. So this is probably one of the coolest places to live in this town. People probably prefer these houses because the back of your house faces this creek down here. So if you live out this way, you have this beautiful view. If this was your house, your backyard faces this. It's actually the creek that I've showed you in other videos as well.
