Akeel: The second amendment was really born out of the fear of black people, and how do we use guns and the militia in order to protect the white community from african americans. So a big part of your argument is that racism was inherent to the very purpose of the second amendment. And that's at odds with what at least some scholars have said about the ea. Makilamar at yale,. for example, has argued that the primary purpose of theSecond Amendment was a kind of preservation of local control. There would be local militias that could serve as a check against the federal government, and specifically against a standing army.
