He sees opportunity for his party and seizes it in a certain political direction. By now he genuinely believes in this authoritarian wordview, as opposed to boris johnson. He invests a lot of energy into socializing new generation into a kind of radical, writing, nationalist, antia liberal way of thinking. So i would not describe him any more as a pragmatic politician who simply senses what the people want,. but as someone who actively shapes the demand side.
