What's the Root Cause of the Great Recession?

The stock market may have taken the majority of the carnage, but i think we're going to see the carnage start to rotate into other asset classes. I just want to build on point about root causes here. The temporary government programm was quantitative easing. We had this great recession of two thousand eight that could have turned into depression. They broke the glass in case of emergency.
