The History of Science in the Christian West

Is it true that celestial science or what we've come to call astronomy emerged in a unique way in the Christian West? In other words, what's so special about this story over any other civilizations astronomy? Yeah, it's an interesting question, and like any other question having to do with the history of ideas, the answer is highly complex. We can say we have this wonderful intellectual history of great thinkers who predated Christianity but whose ideas were readily embraced by monotheists and Christians.
