The Importance of Habits
The genesis of this book is a course that I together with a then doctoral student of mine have started teaching at Yale for undergraduates. And basic intuition behind it was that we live in an environment of privatized idea of what the good life is and because it is privatized, therefore in public domains in universities,. We don't spend time, have no resources to know how to pursue that life together as an educational community. The same is true in the broader culture. This whole idea of the good is so central to our lives. It's such a common question. If you become obsessed with the means, then you'll miss out on the meaning. Absolutely.
