Crusoe and the Fear of Falling Into the Hands of Cannibals
The fear of falling into the hands of cannibals is also repeatedly mentioned during Crusoe's earlier voyage adventures. Was this a real danger or an imagined danger for 18th century traders? It wasn't imagined in the sense that there was this other on the other side of the world but this idea that you know because you arrive in an unknown territory and at the time the first step for transatlantic voyages was Africa.
