Tolstoy is interested in these kind of big pivotal moments in history as well as the kind of emergent effects because he's interested in beekeeping and things like that. He does think in those terms, and he sort of opposed to this great man theory of history. And so then he sees these kind of waves of history. There was something in that, it was making me think about nonlinear responses. It was actually like, at the same time I was reading a lot about the Mongol invasions  and they're almost like a boiling over.
