The Uxbridge by-election was part of a deal with the government to get funding. If you're going to get them not just to not turn out, but to vote for you, there need to be reasons. Tactical voting is in place and doesn't need leaders to tell people to do it. They do it. And if I were a Tory MP, I would be really worried by that above all the other things that are going on. It's a combination of reassurance and a sense of exciting purpose and mission.
