Then in 1980, there's a new edition of the DSM, which for the first time includes an entry on gender identity disorder. And that gives trans medicine access, however, tenuous to to insurance coverage. Not long before that, in 1973, homosexuality was declassified as a psychiatric disorder by the American Psychological Association.
