The Importance of Focused Attention

Most people tend to think of two states of attention being focused or unfocused. We can be very engaged with something and it requires a lot of mental effort. There's other things we do where we are not at all challenged, like playing solitaire. People switch among these different types of attention throughout the day. The focused attention when you're engaged and challenged tends to have a rhythm through the day.
