The Relationship Between Conjugated Bilirubin and Chronic Hepatitis B
The normal fraction of measured bilirubin that is conjugated is about 3%. In chronic alcohol-related cirrhosis, it rises to 20%. And in chronic viral hepatitis, it's 64%. Even as the liver fails, its ability to conjugate remains intact. So I feel like to really understand this paradox and solve it,. Can we sort of back up and review bilirUBin metabolism and what role the liver sort of plays in all that? Yeah, we should do that. We'll probably end up talking a little bit about terminology because I think we're using terms already that some people may need a little bit of a refresher on.
