Sometimes the field hinge on very small groups of people or even individual examples. I have a friend who told me that his company needed the diamond knives to do in a careful cutting of tissue for a particular application. And then one day he couldn't get them from the company was normally buying it from. He asked them and they said, George stopped working here. He's retired. Nobody else at the company knew how to do it particularly well. So they were in a bind. Then it turned out that Apple was interested in maybe buying these kind of blades for some purpose. Immediately three companies sprung up because Apple has money. But at that point, my friend was kind of happily buying these diamond
