I think this plant very much is a symbol of Neville really becoming more confident in himself growing in his own abilities. I thought it was so cute that he's able to share the things he's interested in without being like nervous that they're gonna make fun of him. The name probably comes from the genus of plants called Mimulus in the lore of flower remedies as developed by British physician Dr. Edward Bach in the 1920s and essence made from the Mimulus flower is said to counter anxiety and fear which I think is wonderful.
