How to Manage a Lexicon With More Than a Thousand Words

There are literally hundreds already of these conceptual metaphors just for English which have been investigated by linguists. A lot of the lexicon building comes from doing translations and maybe as you're doing translation you can hit upon a particular metaphor and then riff on that for a little bit. There is actual research indicating that it makes it easier for students to learn vocabulary if it's part of a coherent metaphorical system. If your conceptual metaphor is way out there you should probably define it as though it were an idiom.
