Adam Smith's Solution to the Same Problem
Hume was one of the people who applied himself to this problem. And it's worth remembering, as I say, that this was after centuries in which the religious denominations of Europe had demonstrated they couldn't get on with each other. Hume said black people are simply inferior to the whites. That's what he calls us, the whites. They have never accomplished anything in the past worth remembering. He doesn't really say much more about it than that. It's a very short footnote.
