And again, we would have to really sort of try and get into her underlying motivation,. Was it a cultural expectation? was it a disposition? Was it a personality thing? Isn't that kind of what keeps you in the game in these novels? I mean, why do I keep turning pages in and out? Because a good novelist would never let you know about page 12.
