First author was actually looking for jean knockouts, jeans which have lost their function because of mutation. He observed this curious pattern that when he looked at jeans, that as you approached the gean, if you will, you could see mutation rate relatively high. And then inside jeansit was much lower. So he saw this patten and was scratching his head a little bit. Then it was really a wonderfulstory of a chance of the prepared mind.
