The Origins of Computers

Moses Schoenfinkle invented combinators in 1920, but people hadn't really understood very well then and pretty much ever since. Haskell Curry's work on combinators led among other things to start suggesting I gather functional programming kinds of ideas early on in the days when ENIAC was being developed. Lambda calculus have been invented in 1935; that didn't enter kind of the world of practical programming for a very long time. Chuck Conrad Zuza apparently developed a binary mechanical computer during World War II.
