I think the idea that they're white people, and white people don't like black people and black people have problems was a useful fiction in 1960 even though it was oversimplified then. Now we live in a world where there's so many other kinds of people and Latinos outnumber us. And yet we're still talking about this white black thing, and you know you adjust by saying black and brown. But increasingly what's going on is that a sliver of Americans who, you know, would be classified as black, have a certain set of issues.
