The Wrong Way Goals

A lot of movies are the goal that the character is trying to achieve how they're going after it is the wrong way. You'll see this pop up in a lot of coming of age and write a passage stories. Jim Carrey's goal is to be a good father, but he thinks he can do that by just lying about everything. He continues to lie even when he's incapable of telling. It's an odd thing as an audience member to be rooting against a character achieving a goal.
