Subverting the Reader's Expectations

There's something where you subvert the readers expectations. One of the best examples I can think of just off the top of my head is Samuel L. Jackson's St Crispin's Day speech in 1999's Deep Blue Sea. At the time, it was both hilarious and horrifying and was brilliant. And so I look for ways in which I can do something that looks like it's delivering what people are anticipating, and then twists and delivers something else that makes them laugh and make them scream at the same time.
