The History of Everyday Life in 16th to 20th Century China

Historians commonly now call history from the bottom up. I believe that is really important to understand things, society, that we look at it not only from the perspective of the people at the top but also from the little guys at the bottom level of society. The new book rats, cats, rogues and heroes has tried to combine both social history and cultural history. And I'm interested again in looking at China's downtrodden or what I describe as the underside of Chinese history.
