What Happened to Madrid in 1561?

In 1561, Philip II decided to upstick and move his capital to Madrid. We don't know why he did it - there are lots of theories. Toledo at the time was the seat of the Catholic Church,. Archdiocese and Philip wanted to put some distance between himself and influence from the Catholic Church. Another strong argument is water because Toledo was growing rapidly with only a deep gorge down to the Tachod Tajit's river.
