The PGA tour is giving away $1.5 billion to players over the next five years. The money comes from future revenue of TV deals, which were projected to go on incline and now are flatter potentially with a higher front end. Golf has never had a competitive threat for most of its history so when there's a competitor you have to compensate your players more if you don't want them going somewhere else.
