How Do You Define Leadership?

When you were an early career researcher, did you envisage yourself as the leader of an organization like EMBO? And if not, how did that happen? How did you get to where you are today? Throughout my career, I've been driven by the science, but I've always been interested in how science is done. After quite a few years working in a research institute, I became very interested in how you could make conditions better for younger scientists. That took me more into leadership roles within academia and I moved to King's College London 10 years ago.
