The Power of Mean Reversion in Technical Analysis
Bob Greene: Traders are told they can apply the same systems to any market or timeframe. He says if neither of those things is true, then you're not using specialized information. In commodities, he says, buying a breakout of 20 day highs and shorting 20 day lows would make you money. But in stocks, it would lose us money according to his analysis. Greene: I think there's some truth but we need to be careful about understanding what goes beyond simple chart patterns.
