Former Tory leader William Hague says things look bad for the Tories. But he's trying to deter them, I think, from acting as if they have already lost. He doesn't want them to have a massive tantrum while they're still at the helm. At a time of such profound crisis, voters will not choose the next PM on the basis of who is interesting. A drowning person does not choose the most fashionable bit of wood drifting by. They choose the bit that they think might save them.
