South African transgender athlete Maori Yamori was the first known trans woman in the Olympic Games as a 44, 5-year-old. The IOC have said that you need specific evidence to open up women's sports for gender reassignment surgery and hormone replacement therapy. But there is no proof of these treatments having an adverse effect on performance or body mass index (BMI), among other things.
