The Signs of Jesus
There are seven es signs that jesus performs, seven being a number associated with creation and sabbath. This sign is numbered as the second sign. In verse 54, there is a royal official in capernaum who asks Jesus to come down and heal him. He doesn't perform some great act of wizardry or an elaborate ritual. Rather, he gives a simple word, go your son will live. The disciples recognized that they were entering into the labors of others who had gone ahead of them enjoying the fruit of their work.
