The Function of Language
I know that you have said it's definitely for communication. But I recently had Nick Enfield on and he's written a book called Nature versus Reality. And his argument is that language is mostly for or the primary function of language is for socially coordinating around social problems, which you just mentioned a few minutes ago. So can language be for different things at different stages of your development? Well, what can we say about the function or why not have lots of functions?Yeah, this kind of question is really controversial in part because there's a lot of ambiguity when somebody asks: What is the function of language?
