Introduction
The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on December 7th addressing the controversial topic of closing Guantanamo 20 years after the September 11th attacks. The committee heard from six witnesses, including Brigadier General John Baker, Chief Defense Council for Military Commissions and retired Major General Michael Leonard. At the time, many senior military officials, national security experts and lawmakers agreed that it was far past time to close Guantanamo Bay. "It saddens me that this hearing today is even necessary," said Sen. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey)
