The Importance of Immigrants in the United States
Sally Kohn: Immigrants have a net positive effect on our fiscal situation. But unskilled immigrants create a fiscal burden for local government, even though if you factor in what's happening at the federal level, it's a net benefit for the economy. She says recent immigrants are going to require more in benefits and probably pay less in taxes than immigrants who have been here for a while. The places where we see the highest proportion of these index immigrants is in Florida, Texas, California, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts.
