A lot of major agribusinesses buying up Ukraine's farmlands are actually indebted to world financial institutions. The Oakland Institute posits that these major financial institutions have a major say and now major stakes in what happens to the farmlands. So it's just another situation where we're seeing the world's largest financial institutions, the world's power elite, finding every different way they can think of to get a stake in Ukraine's future. "I would not say I was shocked by it, but it's unfortunately par for the course," says Julian Zelizer.
