Last time we spoke, you were thinking about how to prepare for the possibility that ets are real. What should we be doing? Well, i'm still working on it. I think part of it is this idea about public science which kind of serves two functions. On one hand, it will actually do some science which the military and big science are not going to do in the public domain any time soon. But a public science also, if you involve the public, is itself a kind of preparation, cognitively andmorally andemotionally, for people. It becomes exciting, and people get something to look forward to,. as opposed to something that's very scaring
