Jefferson's Dishonesty in the Virginia Ratification Convention
Hamilton was bewildered when Jefferson came back from France in 1789 because Madison had worked with him and they had largely shared a view of the national government. I don't think it involved had to involve any dishonesty here, I think it's easily explained by the processes to them have gone through. Monroe was actually an anti-federalist in the ratification convention in Virginia. And so he ends up with a very limited government, kind of highly federal idea of the Constitution. This might make a good book too.
